General Info

Tucked along Front Street in downtown Toronto, Churrasco Of The St Lawrence brings the warm, comforting flavors of a traditional Portuguese restaurant to the busy streets near the market district. Located at 91 Front St E, Toronto, ON M5E 1C2, Canada, this spot feels like the kind of place you stumble upon once and keep returning to. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, making it easy to stop in whether you’re a local grabbing a quick bite or a tourist exploring nearby locations.

The menu focuses on simple Portuguese classics done right. The star here is clearly the BBQ chicken. The BBQ Chicken Half arrives juicy, smoky, and coated with that signature churrasco-style seasoning that makes the flavor linger long after the meal. If you’re not quite that hungry, the Quarter Chicken is a great option that still delivers the same rich taste and satisfying texture. Both dishes feel hearty without being heavy, which is probably why they appear in so many positive reviews.

Another standout on the menu is the BBQ Chicken Sandwich. It’s the kind of sandwich that feels homemade-tender grilled chicken, well-balanced seasoning, and a satisfying bite that works perfectly for lunch. Pair it with a Caesar Salad, and you have a simple but well-rounded meal that fits the laid-back style of the diner. The salad adds a fresh, crisp contrast to the smoky chicken, making it a favorite combination among regulars.

Of course, no visit feels complete without something sweet at the end. The Custard Tarts are a highlight and capture the spirit of Portuguese baking beautifully. With a creamy filling and lightly crisp pastry shell, they offer just the right level of sweetness. Many diners end up grabbing one for the road, especially after realizing how quickly they disappear.

The restaurant also makes things easy for different types of visitors. Delivery is available for those days when you want the same comforting flavors at home. For anyone dining in, onsite services keep the experience smooth and relaxed. Accessibility is clearly considered as well, with a wheelchair accessible entrance that helps ensure everyone can enjoy the space comfortably.

Because of its convenient downtown location, it’s also a natural stop for tourists exploring the St. Lawrence area. The service is quick, the food is satisfying, and the vibe is friendly without feeling rushed. Whether you’re stopping in for a casual lunch, scanning the menu for something comforting, or reading reviews before choosing where to eat nearby, Churrasco Of The St Lawrence delivers a straightforward dining experience built around flavorful Portuguese favorites.

What customers say?

“ I got the Portuguese tart and coconut tart. I had already purchased my tart from Paddington but since this is branded as "Portuguese cuisine," I wanted to come the tarts since MOST OF THE BAKERIES AT ST.LAWRENCE ARE SELLING THESE TARTS. Well, I enjoyed the tart from Paddington more. They were both good but the custard in that was not as smooth and spiced and Paddington. The coconut tart is very moist and has a balanced sweetness. There is not really much of a coconut taste but you can feel the coconut flakes that are used, so yes there is coconut but it just is not strong. The texture is also a bit chewy, not what I expected but enjoyable nonetheless. Give this place a try and eat right way! Best when fresh, if you lucky :) ”

“ Heard about the legendary Portuguese chicken of St Lawrence Market for a while, so when I finally came for a visit, I just had to try it. The proprietor was gracious and generous with his recommendation. I decided to order quarter chicken dark meat to go, with rice and potatoes. Finally, two Portuguese tarts would round up the order. Frankly, the chicken looked a bit dry to me, so I was bracing myself for disappointment. However, it took one bite to change my mind. The chicken was tender and juicy, with good flavour on their own. The proprietor highly recommended eating the chicken with the sauce that came with it, and I heartily agree; the sauce added a little kick to the dish, and made the meat more moist and pleasant. I separated the sauce because I wanted to eat it with my dogs, but next time I would let the proprietor slather the sauce all over the chicken while serving. I have mixed feelings about the tart, but for Portuguese egg tarts outside Portugal, it's not bad. I did come close to end of day, and the tarts may have been sitting outside all day, but they are good complement to the Portuguese chicken dish. ”

“ I’ve had their custard tarts maybe too many times now. I can attest they are always warm and crunchy. The dough is so flaky and it’s always a treat to go and say hello to such nice people. ”

“ I ordered the half chicken with rice and potatoes and 2 of the pastels. The chicken was really flavorful and was very tender. I was able to eat it with very little effort from my fork and knife. The price is great for what you get! The pastels were great and were very comparable to the ones I’ve had in Lisbon. Overall this is an amazing spot that you shouldn’t miss in the market! ”

“ Decided to take a trip to the St Lawrence Market today and stumbled upon the famed Churrasco’s! The chicken was fall off the bone tender and well seasoned leaving me wishing for more and the egg tart was delectable! Got the 1/4 chicken with rice and it hit the spot. Check them out! ”

“ I really liked this place. The Portuguese custard tarts were done right unlike Eve’s Temptations in the basement. These were fresh, the custard in the middle was smooth and melted right in my mouth. I regret not buying like a dozen of these. Cost of one was very cheap. Service was attentive and friendly. You just walk up, order, and then find a seat somewhere in the market. There was no line when I ordered and that was on a Saturday morning. ”

“ I stopped here simply to get their Portuguese Custard tarts- delicious and affordable! The entire was amazing- flaky and crunchy pastry with a super soft and creamy custard. The custard has a perfect level of sweetness which makes this a must try tart. The service was fast and super friendly- amidst them what seemed like a very busy morning. Really worth a try! ”
